Edward “Ted” Bartlett

MANSFIELD: Edward Rice “Ted” Bartlett, Jr., 85, of Mansfield, died Monday evening December 8, 2003, in SCCI Hospital following a short illness.
He was born November 7, 1918 in New York City, to Edward Rice and Magdalen Thibaut Bartlett. He was graduated from Williams College in 1940, and later awarded both Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from the California Institute of Technology.
Mr. Bartlett served as a radar officer in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS Springfield during World War II. He reached the rank of lieutenant and was released from active duty on April 24, 1946. His service continued with the Naval Reserve until 1955.
He married Helen Hughes Hasler on July 2, 1949, in Cresson, Pennsylvania. Mr. Bartlett moved with his family to Mansfield in 1963.
Mr. Bartlett’s career included work with the Dupont Corporation, Paul Edwards Consulting, retiring in 1983 after 20 years with Empire-Detroit Steel.
Ted was a loyal member of the First Congregational Church, a 40-year member of the choir, and served as a Trustee, Deacon, and active participant on various committees.
A devoted member of his community, Ted served on the boards of Planned Parenthood and the YMCA. He was a volunteer at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital, a teacher at both North Central Technical College, and the Ashland University program at the old Mansfield Reformatory. He was a member of Mansfield Kiwanis and the Hermits Club.
Ted loved skiing, sports, bridge and travel, but most treasured the time he spent with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helen; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan Bartlett and Marc Kaufman of Boston; their children Jonathan and Michele; a son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Katharine Bartlett of Salzburg, Austria; their daughter Anna; a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Bartlett and Todd Wynward of Taos, New Mexico; their son Nico; a son and daughter-in-law, Andrew Bartlett and Teresa Barickman of Santa Fe, New Mexico; their children Claire and Lowell; and his brother, David Bartlett, of Connecticut.
A memorial service will be held in the First Congregational Church, 640 Millsboro Road, Mansfield, on Saturday December 27, 2003 at 11:30 am. The family will greet friends in the parlor of the church the hour prior to the service.
The Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.
