October 12, 1941 ‒ September 19, 2016
Mount Gilead, Ohio
Formerly of Centerburg, Ohio
Edward R. “Ed” Abraham, age 74, of Mount Gilead and formerly of Centerburg, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family, Monday morning, September 19, 2016, following a long illness.
On October 12, 1941, Ed was born at home in New Boston, Michigan, son of the late Fred N. and Marianne L. (Ruehle) Abraham. He graduated from Chester-Franklin High School in the Class of 1959. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Germany.
For many years Ed worked as a prefabricator at National Electric Coil in Columbus, from where he retired.
Ed had a soft heart for animals. He could not harm them and would nurse them back to health if he found an injured animal. He loved being outdoors taking care of his flower gardens or going to yard sales looking to add to his antique collection.
A skilled artist, Ed spent a great deal of time painting landscapes and portraits. He gifted paintings to each person in his family. He was skilled in the art of taxidermy and was also very musically inclined, enjoying the piano.
He loved to cook, but also enjoyed eating out at his favorite restaurant, Tee-Jaye’s Country Place.
Ed will be remembered as a gentle and caring soul who could be quite ornery with his wonderful sense of humor.
He will be dearly missed by his long-time friend of over 40 years; John Kerschner; his German Shepherd, Maggie; four brothers: Norman (Ruth) Abraham of Marion, Ohio, David (Shirley) Abraham of Marion, Ohio, Howard (Barbara) Abraham of Sopchoppy, Florida, and Jerry (Laura) Abraham of Delaware, Ohio; seven sisters: Margaret Price of Fredericktown, Ohio, Mary Jane Hanners of Mount Gilead, Ohio, Kathleen Grooms of Mount Gilead, Ohio, Betty (David) Forrest of Ocala, Florida, Nancy (Tom) Rensch of Edison, Ohio, Barbara (David) Van Sickle of Mount Gilead, Ohio, and Joyce (Gary) Gollihugh of Sunbury, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Fred “Junior” Abraham; and two sisters: Marie Abraham and Connie Jones.
Ed’s family will greet friends from 11:00 a.m. – 12Noon on Friday, September, 23, 2016, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services to honor and celebrate his life will be held there at 12Noon with Pastor Stephan Bloomfield officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Chesterville.
