BUTLER: Edward Hicks, Sr., age 90, of Butler passed away suddenly Sunday, June 30, 2013 in his home.
He was born May 20, 1923 in Floyd, Kentucky and served in the Army during World War II. He moved to the Richland County area in 1952.
On December 27, 1945 he married Jemima Hughes who preceded him in death on August 8, 2009.
No stranger to hard work, Ed was the sole proprietor of Butler Drywall. He and Jemima also owned a Trout Farm in Fredericktown, and ran their family farm raising livestock and crops. Self sufficient and capable, he and Jemima raised their family off the land, completely reliant on the many gifts provided to them. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, the crop canned and kept for the winter months. An outdoors man, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and his work on the farm, Jemima faithfully at his side for over 60 years.
He is survived by five children Sandra (Tom) Wise, Ed Hicks, Jr., Judith Premont, Ruben Hicks and Dwight (Caryl) Hicks; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; siblings Willard (Lois) Hicks, Elmer (Beverly) Hicks, Mae (Randall) Adams, Bonnie (Raymond) Ryman and Wanda Bolen.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by nine siblings Darsie Saunders, Bethel Puckett, Orville Hicks, Dausie Puckett, John Hicks, Dan Hicks, George Hicks, Otto Hicks, and Sarah Katherine Hicks.
Friends may call Wednesday, July 3, 2013 from 11 am to 1 pm in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home, where the funeral service will be held at 1 pm. Pastor Patrick Bailey will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in Zion Four Corners Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Worthington Township-Butler Rescue Squad.
The Bellville Snyder Funeral Homes is assisting the Hicks family with funeral services.
