Edna Mae Dailey, age 86, of Mount Vernon, died Sunday May 15, 2011 at the Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon. Edna was born April 11, 1925 in Mount Vernon to Russell and Martha (Olvey) Mills and had spent her lifetime in Knox County. She was a member of the Mulberry Street United Methodist Church and an active member of the Workers for Christ Sunday School Class for over 60 years. She was a former member of the Knox Community Hospital Auxiliary.
Following graduation Edna worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C. She was a bookkeeper and teller for the First Federal Savings and Loan in Mount Vernon. She was Secretary at the Gambier High School. Edna worker 10 years at Pittsburg Plate Glass Company in Mount Vernon until it closed and then became secretary for the Mount Vernon Police Department until her retirement in 1989.
Edna is survived by her loving family, her sons Barry (Sue) Dailey, Richard “Dick” (Evowne) Dailey both of Mount Vernon, and Kevin (Lynne) Dailey of Florida; grandchildren Carrie Swank, Amy Dailey and, Matt Dailey; great grandchildren Amber, Brittney, Michael, Christopher, Annalise, Layne, McKenzie, Isaac, Kayla, Kendal, and Kimber; her sister Margaret West of Galion; her aunt Katherine Garzieri of Mount Vernon, sisters-in-law Joan Dailey and Ruth Mills; step-granddaughters Diane, Victoria and Denise and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and step-father, Edna was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Harold Dailey in 2003, her brother Russell “Bud” Mills and several aunts and uncles and grandparents.
Friends may call Wednesday May 18, 2011 from 6pm to 8pm at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050 where funeral services will be Thursday at 11am with Rev. Warren Outhwaite officiating. Burial will follow at Union Grove Cemetery near Gambier.
