Edith J. Cavanaugh

Edith J. Cavanaugh, age 88, of Delaware died Tuesday evening, December 16, 2003 at Delaware Court Health Care Center.

She was born in Mason City, Illinois on February 20, 1915 to the late Edward and Nellie (Redman) Moser. Edith previously resided in Peoria, Illinois, where she worked for the Sealtest Dairy Company hand dipping cottage cheese and inspecting milk bottles. She was a member of the Averyville Baptist Church. She moved to Delaware 14 years ago and became an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxillary #376, and had been honored with the Mother of the Year award. She was also a member of the Georgetowne Rhythmettes Kazoo and Kitchen Band. Edith will be remember for her dancing, pumpkin pie, drinking coffee, and collecting clowns. She was a very loving and religious person, who enjoyed reading her Bible.

She is survived by her daughter Vella Runyan of Delaware, Grandchildren: Deborah (Allen) Nagle, Kathleen Van Buskirk, and John (Amy) Runyan, and four others, Linda, Lisa, Lila, and Todd, 12 great-grandchildren including Jenna Van Buskirk, and one great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents, Edith was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Floyd Cavanaugh, sons Floyd Jr., Richard, and Robert Cavanaugh, daughter, Marlene Cavanaugh, a granddaughter Olivia Van Buskirk, and her former-son in law, Gerald Runyan.

Friends may call Saturday from 1 – 2 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St., Delaware, where funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. David Sedziol officiating. Interment will follow in Marlborough Cemetery.
