Eddie D. Gear
December 23, 1958 ‒ January 15, 2020
Eddie D. Gear, age 61, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at Marion General Hospital.
Eddie was born on December 23, 1958 to Hobert E. “Gene” Gear and Catherine Barlow Gantt in California, but was raised here in Marion.
Eddie has always enjoyed working with his hands and he loved to fish. He also had a love for animals, but had a special bond with his two dogs and seven birds: three canaries and 4 love birds. He loved them dearly and spoiled them rotten. Eddie was a family man who not only spoiled his animals, but his kids, grandchildren, and anyone who he could call family. He was a father figure for many children, especially Levi Frost. Levi and Eddie taught each other so much, and despite not being blood relatives, Levi called him “dad” and Eddie called him “son.” He cared and loved for his family deeply, which his grandchildren being the light of his life. His step dad, William Gantt, raised him to be a brilliant and kind man, and taught him how to raise a family full of wonderful people.
Eddie was a down-to-earth man who could get along with anyone. His kids say he without a doubt, “one-in-a-million.” He would help anyone however he could, no matter what. He was also a dedicated Cleveland Browns fan, cheering them on whenever they played, even when they lost.
Eddie is survived by his father Gene Gear, his children Deana and Amanda Gear, his grandchildren Bryson and Zoey Helms, and Lillie and Caylie Short. Also surviving are his brothers Robert (April) Gear of New Bloomington and Ray Gear of Caledonia, as well as sister Gaylynne Gear Murphy of Ironton. Numerous nieces and nephews are left as well to cherish his memory.
