Earl Ray Carper, age 80, of Gambier, Ohio, passed away Monday, July 11, 2005 at his residence. He was born in Union, West Virginia on January 12, 1925 to Charles F. Carper and Mary Lavie Wall and moved to Gambier from Howard, Ohio in 1990. Earl was a Lathe Operator for the Flexible Corporation. He was a member of the First Church of God in Mount Vernon. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Earl was an avid hunter in his youth and enjoyed bowling in his latter years.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 23 years, Marie Carper and a daughter Nancy (Gary) Horn. Five brothers, Frank, Homer, Eddie, William and Kyle and three sisters, Mamie, Hallie and Violia.

He is survived by his wife Nellie Joy Carper of Gambier, whom he married October 14, 1990. His daughter Jennie Lou Avery of Howard, his son Allen Ray Carper of Mount Vernon, a brother Robert Carper of Mount Vernon, a sister Ruby Arthur of Mount Gilead, two grandchildren Mark and Nancy Avery and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Wednesday, July 13, from 6 to 8 P.M. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A graveside service will be held Thursday, July 14 at 2:00 P.M. at the Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens with Reverend Bob Pelfrey officiating.
