Earl “Gene” Van Horn

Gene Van Horn, age 64, of Mount Gilead died unexpectedly Sunday, December 14, 2003 at his residence.
He was a lifelong Morrow County resident, where he was born on December 10, 1939 to the late Herman “Jim” and Francis (Carpenter) Van Horn. Gene graduated from Chesterville High School Class of 1957 and then served in the U.S. Army. He began farming soon after high school and continued until his final day. Gene also performed many tasks with his backhoe for Franklin and Congress Township in Morrow County. He was a member of the Morrow County Farm Bureau, Federal Landbank Board, and Landmark Board. He also enjoyed the outdoors and eating ice cream.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Sherri (Davis) Van Horn, whom he married September 17, 1963; a son; Ray Van Horn of Mount Gilead; three daughters; Tammy (Dale) Creasap of Mount Gilead, Renee Van Horn of Lexington, and Heidi Van Horn of Mount Gilead; two grandsons; Dustin and Ryan Creasap; four brothers; Ed (Norma) Van Horn of Fredericktown, John (Donna) Van Horn of Bellville, Kenny (Lois) Van Horn, of Bellville, and Tom (Lil) Van Horn of Chesterville; two sisters; Jane (Jim) Plogher of Chesterville and Patricia (Eddie) Carpenter of Bellville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Robert Wayne Van Horn.
Friends may call at the Craven Funeral Home in Mount Gilead on Wednesday from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. Pastor Donald Linn will conduct services there on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Bryn Zion Cemetery.
