Earl Dean Conger, age 87, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on Monday, September 25, 2017 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

He was born on January 10, 1930 in Mount Vernon, Ohio to Lloyd and Mae (Robbins) Conger. After graduating from Mount Vernon High School, Dean enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served during the Korean Conflict.

 Dean retired in 1995 after more than 25 years as a Machine Technology teacher at the Knox County Career Center. Dean loved his students and enjoyed being able to pass on his knowledge to them.

 Dean loved all types of sports. He could often be found watching any Ohio State Buckeyes athletic games or any Ohio professional sports on television. Dean also enjoyed fishing trips to Canada, golfing on local courses and bowling. Dean served as president of the local bowling league, and for many years, he was the head baseball coach for the Mount Vernon Colonials, a semi-pro baseball team based in Mount Vernon.

 Dean was a member of the American Legion Post #136 of Mount Vernon and the Eastside Church of Christ. Dean also served numerous years on the Zoning Board of Monroe Township.

 Dean was a loving husband and father that will be missed by his family and many students and friends.

 Dean is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Lou (Teeter) Conger; two daughters, Lee Ann (Andrew) Squire of Schaghticoke, New York and Lori Lynn Conger of Lewis Center, Ohio. He is also survived by his sister, Janet Conger, of Mount Vernon.

 Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Carroll Conger.

 A graveside service with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will be held on Friday, September 29, 2017 beginning at 3 p.m. in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens. Mr. Rick Tincher will be officiating.

 Memorial contributions in Dean’s name may be made to the Eastside Church of Christ, 1120 Yauger Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050.

    • Thank you so much Bob. Dad often talked about Elmwood and his friends there. You all must have been a handful for the teachers.
      He went quickly and we assume without much pain.
