E. Verlene “Peg” Smith Traxler, 81, of Loudonville and formerly of Galion, went to be with the Lord after a brief illness Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013 at Hospice House of North Central Ohio.
Born Feb. 22, 1932 in Morgan County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late William G. “Willie” and Lena Lewis Lewis. She married Ray Traxler on October 6, 2007 and he survives. She was previously married to, Walter “Wimpy” Smith, father of her children, William “Bill” Haga and Howard “Pops” Smith.
She was an avid bowler into her 80’s, member of the AMVETS and American Legion Auxiliary’s in Galion and Loudonville over the years.
When Peg first came to the area she worked at the former Stratbury Manufacturing and Ohio Overcoat Companies in Galion. She then worked at the former North Electric and P.E.C.O. in Galion. Peg owned and operated the Point Bar with former husband Howard “Pops” Smith for many years and later worked part time at Motomart in Galion prior to moving to Loudonville.
She is survived by one daughter, Joyce E. Smith of Spartanburg, S.C.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry D. Gloria Smith of Galion and Jerel W. “Billy” Brenda Smith of Galion; nine stepchildren;nine grandchildren, Michelle Jason McKleskey, Nathan Courtney Harper, Zach Allison Harper, Heidi Jason Sargent, Amanda Joe Walker, Drew Hoffer, Billy Sara Smith, Megan Kyle Nulk and Sarah Beran; 11 great-grandchildren and one sister and brother-in-law, Jenetta Ed Ginder of Morehead, Ky.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters, Victorine, Lonis, Berman, Lubrella, Odell, Clancy and Delyn.
Friends may call from 12 to 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, 2013 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home where services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Sep. 9, with Rev. Wendy L.M. Guion officiating. Interment will be in Crawford County Memory Gardens.
