E. Leon De Lano Jr., age 68 of New Gambier Road, Mount Vernon, passed away on Thursday August 14, 2003 at Knox Community Hospital. He was born on January 11, 1935 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to the late Everett Leon and Mildred (Riley) De Lano. He was a member of the Gay Street United Methodist Church and Mount Zion Lodge #9 F&AM, Scottish Rite and York Rite. Mr. De Lano graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Northrop University and his Masters Degree from California Institute of Technology.
Mr. De Lano worked in the Research and Development division of Aero Lab and North American before becoming Professor of Aero Space Engineering at Northrop University. He then worked in the sales and computer division of Cooper Bessemer. Mr. De Lano was director of computers at Kenyon College before moving to Digital Equipment Corporation. He served as Director of Engineering at COTC Newark and then became a private consultant. Mr. De Lano retired from the Limited Distribution Center of Columbus.
Mr. De Lano was very active in the collection of sports cars, including membership to the Sports Car Club of America and served as a technical inspector at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course and others.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Carol (Clark) De Lano, two sons, Everett (Dare) De Lano of Rancho Santa Fe, California, Derek (Heather) De Lano of Gambier, five grandchildren, Evan, Isabel, Oliver, Alexie and Angelena.
Friends may call on Monday from 5 to 8 PM at the Dowds
-Snyder Funeral Home where a Masonic Service will follow at 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11 AM at the Gay Street United Methodist Church with Rev. David Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery.
