E. Dewey Fittro

E. Dewey Fittro, age 59 of Delaware died early Friday morning June 13, 2008 at home, with his family by his side following a courageous and spirited battle against cancer.

An inspiration and example too many, he was born on December 12, 1948 in Mt. Clemens, Michigan to Daniel Fittro and Carolyn (Sanders) Fittro. A graduate of Olivet High School in 1967, he earned a bachelors degree from Olivet College in Olivet, Michigan and was a member of the Kappa Sigma Alpha Fraternity.

He worked as the human resource director for several companies before becoming an insurance agent with Newark Insurance Agency and the Duttera Insurance Agency in Newark. A former resident of both Marion and Bellevue, he moved to Delaware in 1988. While in Marion, he was a member of the Elks Lodge and Optimist Club.

He was a member of William Street United Methodist Church, T-Quest group, and was a skillful staff parish relations committee member. A fan of all sports, he took delight in coaching his son’s baseball teams and also participated in the Bellevue Elk’s baseball league. He served as a 4- H volunteer leader, instructing shooting sports. Dewey enjoyed spending time on his pontoon boat at Apple Valley and cruising in his dream car; a 2001 Corvette.

Most supportive of friends and family, he took pleasure in offering his skills and assistance with interview and human resource issues. One of courage and a strong will, he also enjoyed a humorous side as well. A fighter, he remained steadfast in faith throughout his illness and will be remembered for his caring qualities, warm smile, and gentle ways.

Survived by his devoted wife of almost 23 years: Joyce (Kimpel) Fittro, whom he married November 16, 1985 at Epworth Untied Methodist Church in Marion, their sons of whom he was most proud: Matthew a sophomore at Belmont University and Casey, a recent gradate of Delaware Hayes High School, he also has a son: D.J. (Kelli) Fittro of Cedar Springs, MI mother: Carolyn of St. Petersburg, FL , Sisters: Melissa (Matt) Marino of Colorado Springs, CO, Marcia Fittro of Okemos, MI, Cynthia Fittro of St. Petersburg, FL , brothers: Daniel (Carmen) of St. Petersburg Beach, FL, Gary of St. Petersburg, FL, Michael (Jo) Fittro of Marshall, MI, Mother-in-law: Esther Kimpel of Somerset, OH, Sisters-in-law: Linda (David) Harlan of Zanesville, Kathy (Steve) Oliver of Rushsylvania, OH, Becky (Kevin) Howell of Thorneville, OH, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as a host of friends.

Preceded in death by his father Daniel Fittro and father-in-law Roy Kimple.

Friends may call Sunday 4-7 p.m. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St. (SR 36), Delaware. Funeral services will be held Monday 11:00 a.m. at William St. United Methodist Church, 28 W. William St., Delaware with Rev. Grayson Atha officiating. A celebration gathering for all in attendance will immediately follow the services in the church fellowship hall.
