Dwight Daniels, age 92, of Mount Vernon formerly of Danville died on Friday afternoon, March 1, 2013 at the Country Club Retirement Campus where he resided since 2008. He was born on January 19, 1921 in rural Fredericktown, son of the late Walter and Lulu (Passet) Daniels. Dwight was a life-long Knox County resident.
Dwight was an Army Veteran of WWII and a life member of the American Legion Post in Danville. He was also a faithful member of the Jelloway United Methodist Church for over 60 years serving in many leadership positions. He attended Camp Sychar nearly every year of his life and in later years became a Board member and the “go to guy” for construction upgrades and additions to the camp facilities. Dwight retired as a carpenter from Pittsburgh Plate Glass in 1973 with 28 years of service.
Dwight is survived by his many nieces and nephews, great/great-great nieces and nephews as well as numerous friends who will cherish his stories and memory.
In addition to his parents, Dwight was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Lois Ellen (Dunn) Daniels on February 17, 2005; and a brother, Ralph Daniels.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 East High St., Mount Vernon where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 8, 2013 with Rev. Jack Dearth and Rev. Gary Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Wesley Chapel Cemetery near Danville with Military Honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
