Duane M. Randolph, age 88, of Palmetto, Florida, and formerly of Mount Gilead, Ohio, passed away Saturday afternoon, November 2, 2013 at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Florida.
Duane was born on January 28, 1925 in Marengo, Ohio, the son of the late Kenny “Shorty” and Hazel (Ruhl) Randolph.
In 1943 Duane was drafted into the U.S. ArmyAircorps, where he worked on an airplane maintenance ground crew during World War II. He was stationed in England with the 8th Air Force, 447th Bomb Group. After being honorably discharged, he returned home to finish his education at Mount Gilead High School, graduating on June 9, 1947.
On December 21, 1946, Duane married Betty Sipe. They shared over 52 wonderful years together, raising four children along the way. In 1988, they moved to Palmetto, Florida, and enjoyed many years there. Betty preceded him in death in 1998.
In 1988, Duane retired from the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, where he worked as a Business Representative and President of the Ohio State Council of Machinists.
Duane was very active in the community. He served on the Board of the Leisure Lake Coop, was a 32nd Degree Mason, and was a Life Member of the VFW and the Bradenton Florida American Legion Post. In November 2012, Duane participated in an “Honor Flight” to Washington, D.C. to see the World War II Memorial. This was one of the best experiences of his life.
He will be dearly missed by his four children: Michael D. and Lynn Randolph of Rockwall, Texas, Marilee (Randolph) George and Carl George of Mount Gilead, Ohio, Sheree (Randolph) Klingel of Mount Gilead, Ohio, Janet (Randolph) Brown and Daren Brown of Worthington, Ohio; 8 grandchildren: Meghan Randolph, Cecil George, Mandy Rocks, Trinity Martin, Nathan Klingel, Jared Klingel, Seth Brown, Garrison Brown; four great grandchildren; and by his love and best friend of more than 14 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Hickson of Delaware, Ohio and Palmetto, Florida.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Glen Helman and Larry Randolph, and a sister, Janet Randolph.
The Randolph family will greet friends from 10 – 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2013, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead, OH. Services honoring his life will be held there at 11:00 am with Pastor Russell Martin officiating. Burial with Military Honors provided by the VFW Post 8054 and AmVets Post 87 will follow in Rivercliff Cemetery.
