Duane E. Alward

Duane E. Alward, age 84, of Sunbury died Monday evening January 21, 2008 at St Ann’s Hospital in Westerville.
He was born on August 19, 1923 in Hudsonville, Mich. To the late Donald and Freda (Boldt) Alward. He had lived in the Sunbury area for the past 53 years coming from Ft. Wayne Ind. Duane was a WWII Army veteran and a retired Missile Guidance Engineer for Boeing in Columbus. Member of the Delaware County Historical Society and the Genealogy Society. He enjoyed photography and genealogy as a pastime.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years: Charlene (DeVree) Alward and they were married May 21, 1947; son: Craig (Sue) Alward of Delaware; son-in-law: Michael Roof of Delaware; 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; brother: Lynn (Bonnie) Alward of Hudsonville, Mi; sister: Polly Lowing of Hudsonville.
Preceded in death by his daughter: Diane E. Roof on December 21, 2007.
Friends may call Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR 3 at 61, Sunbury where services will follow at 7 p.m. with the Pastor Wayne Booth officiating. Burial will be Friday in the Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta MI.
