Dovie Merceleen Monak, 89, of Mansfield passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2018.
Dovie was born on July 29, 1928, in Morgan, Kentucky, to Wallace and Jewel (Howard) Whitt. Dovie retired from Therm-O-Disc Corp. She loved traveling and enjoyed many trips with her husband George. Dovie also enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, quilting and dancing.
Dovie’s ancestry includes her father’s Whitt family tracing back six generations to the early 1700s, with roots to both the Cherokee and Shawnee Native Americans. On her mother’s side, the Howards and Isons trace roots back to the pre Revolutionary American colonies and prior to England.
Dovie is survived by two sons, Roger Fisher and Kevin Klink, and one daughter Brenda (Fisher) Mullaney. Dovie had six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Dovie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George Monak, her granddaughter Michele Golden, her sister Betty (Polly) Hoffman, and her niece Judie Lewis.
Calling hours will be on Friday, May 4, from 10 – 11 a.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where her funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. officiated by her minister Paul Lintern. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers and in memory of Dovie, the family requests that donations be given to Southside Christian Church.
