Douglas “Doug” Sauers, age 57, of Centerburg, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 15, 2015 at the Knox Community Hospital. He was born on November 25, 1957 in Erie, PA to Leonard and Sheila (Zuber) Sauers.

Doug was a 1975 graduate of General McLane High School in Edinboro, PA. He was currently employed at Donley Ford in Mount Vernon, OH, as a sales and leasing specialist. He enjoyed sales, and loved his many co-workers. He showed, bred and raised Paint horses with his wife Jane and was a past member of the PA, NY, OH, and IN, Paint Horse Clubs. Prior to his equine endeavors, he showed Angus cattle. He liked to hunt with family and friends. Finally he had a great love for his Australian cattle dog, “Tucker”. Doug will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Sauers, of 25 years of Centerburg, OH; his parents, Leonard and Sheila Sauers of Fairview, PA; his step daughter, Cybill Moreira of Fairview, PA; and granddaughter, McKenna of Fairview, PA.

Friends may call from 5 – 7 PM on Friday, June 19, 2015 at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home; 201 Newark Rd., Mt. Vernon, OH, 43050, where a memorial service will be held at 7 PM with Deacon Tim Birie officiating. A memorial mass will be held on Monday, June 22, 2015 at 10 AM at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 8880 West Main Street McKean, PA 16426, with Father Mark Nowak officiating. A private burial will take place in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery.

    So very sorry to hear of Doug’s passing. The mail lady stopped me today to let me know…so shocked!!! You and the family are in our thoughts and prayers. Chris and Tyler are planning a special tribute to Doug tonight….they are gonna sit on the carport and drink a few in his memory while shooting a few rounds off with their guns. Rest in Peace Doug!

  • I am so very sorry for all of you…Doug was a great guy and I was shocked to see that he had passed. Lenny and Sheila, I can’t even imagine your sorrow on losing him. And, to Jane and Cybill, I feel so, so bad for you both. Keep all those memories of him close to your hearts! I know he thought the world of all of you! I’m sorry that I was unable to attend his service in McKean, but certainly wanted you all to know how bad I feel…such a terrible loss. He was way too young! Again, just so sad for all of you.

  • Doug was a colleague of mine at Donley. I had left Donley and had only recently heard of his passing, it came as a great shock to me. I liked Doug, he had a cheeky wit about him and would often have us in fits of laughter. A very decent man. Blessings to his wife and family.
