Douglas Edward Totman

September 19, 1963 ‒ April 26, 2018

Sparks, Nevada
Formerly of Mount Vernon, Ohio

Douglas Edward Totman, age 54, of Sparks, Nevada, formerly of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on suddenly at his employment, Rail City Casino and Restaurant on April 26, 2018. He was born in Mansfield, Ohio, on September 19, 1963 to the late Kenneth and Virginia (Beeman) Totman.

Douglas attended Mount Vernon High School and South Vernon United Methodist Church with his mother. Douglas was raised in Mount Vernon until he was in his early twenties when he wanted to go out west to California.  He was a hard worker and went beyond his job doing what Rail City needed.  Douglas was like that with people as well.  Always a smile, maybe a joke, very polite and would give anything he could to someone in need.  He was employee of the month two times and was bestowed Employee of the Year once.

Douglas was of Christian belief and lived “old school” as he believed. No fancy electronics for him.  He was an avid watcher of the old shows.   He loved sports and played baseball in his younger years.  Douglas also loved fishing at his favorite spot down by Foundation Park.   In his great nature, Douglas was an organ donor.  The family is proud of the fact that he has given the gift of sight to someone.

His last conversation he wanted his sister to know he loved them and to remember, when you get angry with someone, but you never lose the love. Love of family it never goes away.

“If I can stop one Heart from breaking

I shall not live in vain

If I can ease one life the aching

Or cool one pain

Or help one fainting Robin

Unto his Nest again

I shall not live in vain.”

Douglas is survived by his sisters, Renelle L. Annett, Colleen J. Milligan, Kim L. (Steve) Auker; nephews, Robert C. (Monique) Milligan, Mike Bond; numerous cousins; and a special cousin, Melanie Poole.

Along with his parents, Douglas is preceded in death by all his aunts and uncles.

He will be laid to rest in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at 11 AM with Pastor Lee Cubie officiating.
