Douglas D. “Doug” Kuhlen
November 19, 1949 ‒ September 09, 2021
Douglas D. “Doug” Kuhlen, age 71, of Marion, passed away Thursday evening, September 9, 2021, at Woodside Village Care Center.
He was born on November 19, 1949, in Columbus, to the late Donald D. and Ramona L. (Payne) Kuhlen.
Proud to serve his country, Doug served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam as a door gunner and crew chief of a Huey Gunship.
On March 2, 1974, Doug married the love of his life, Saundra Cline, at the Methodist Church on Thurman Avenue in Columbus.
While Doug worked in many factories over the years, his last duty was electrician and maintenance man for American Showa.
A man of deep faith, Doug held a masters in theology from Midwest Bible College and Seminary. He was 3 credits short of his doctorate. Always eager to share his understanding and formal education of the Lord, Doug and his wife founded the Day Star Church of God in Galion where he served as the Senior Pastor. More recently, Doug and his wife enjoyed fellowship with the Covenant Christian Church of God in Mount Vernon. Doug never stopped learning though as he often could be found reading various works of others as he continued his journey in serving Christ.
For many years Doug enjoyed the craft of a free mason. He was a member of Lodge #206, a 32 degree Scottish Rite, and Nights Templar. Doug enjoyed his brotherhood and shared his love of the craft with other family members who joined as well.
He is survived by his wife, Saundra; children: Christina (Kevin) Smith of Grove City and David (Jeanie) Kuhlen of Marion; grandchildren: Kiersten Smith and Kayden Kuhlen; grand pup, Kenya; siblings: Greg (Amy) Kuhlen of Arizona, Gary (Traci) Kuhlen of Middleton, and Kimberly Baron of Columbus; sister-in-law, Connie Cline of Sparta; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents: Donald and Ramona; and a brother-in-law, Mickey Cline.
His family will greet friends from 11 AM to NOON, on Thursday, September 16, 2021, at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Craven Chapel. (67 N.
