Douglas A. “Doug” Garris, age 55, of Mount Gilead, passed away Wednesday evening, July 14, 2021, at his residence.

He was born on July 20, 1965, in Mount Gilead, to the late William V. and Margie E. (Cox) Garris. Doug graduated from Northmor High School with the class of 1983 where he also attended Pioneer.

Finding true love, Doug married the love of his life, Kimberly S. Banks, on October 28, 1988, in Candlewood Lake.

For the past 5 years, Doug worked as a claims adjuster for Doan and Group. He also was the previous owner of a salvage yard, Mid-Ohio Auto Recycling. Throughout life Doug also enjoyed doing body work on cars.

Doug had a true passion for baseball and sharing his knowledge with others. He enjoyed coaching his son in baseball at Johnsville and later serving as an umpire. When Doug wasn’t on the field, he could be found in the stands cheering on his kids and later his grandchildren as he loved to watch them in all their activities. Taking great pride in his yard, Doug enjoyed mowing and liked it so much he would often mow for others as well. A guilty pleasure of Doug’s was sneaking to Roosters Restaurant every week for a meal often with one of his best friends. Most importantly to Doug was the time he got to be with his family and was so incredibly proud of them. His family will dearly miss him and remember Doug for how hard he worked to provide for his entire family.

He is survived by his wife, Kim; children: Zach (Megan) Garris, Hailee Aberts, and Cody Garris all of Mount Gilead; grandchildren: Douglas Garris, Bryson Garris, Julian Aberts, Lilah Aberts, Madilynn Garris, and Leo Bosh; siblings: Linda (Jerry) Efaw, Frieda Garris Moore, Joan Kuhn, Rhonda Garris, Jodi (Doug) Hayes, Kim Garris, and Jack Garris; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents: William and Margie.
