Dorothy Mae (Lipscomb) Finck

May 12, 1916 ‒ March 02, 2008

Mount Gilead, Ohio

Dorothy Mae (Lipscomb) Finck, age 91, of Mount Gilead, died on Sunday morning, March 2, 2008, at the Morrow County Hospital following an eight month illness.

On May 12, 1916, Dorothy was born in Piqua, Ohio, the daughter of the late Charles, who passed away when she was six months old, and Alice Mae (Williamson) Lipscomb Koffer, neither of whom could hear or speak. Despite her challenging upbringing in West Sonora, Ohio, she persevered and graduated as the valedictorian of the Lewisburg Union High School in the Class of 1933.

Dorothy married Franklin Finck on February 13, 1937. Together they shared just over sixty wonderful years of marriage, until he preceded her in death on February 18, 1997.

Dorothy and Franklin were residents of Trotwood, Ohio, until his retirement from the International Paper Company in Dayton in 1975, when they relocated to Mount Gilead to be near their daughter and grandchildren. While in Mount Gilead, she attended the Trinity United Methodist Church.

An avid golfer, Dorothy’s proudest achievement was becoming the women’s course champion at Pines Lakes Golf Course in Mount Gilead at the age of 86.

Left to cherish her memory are her three children: Joy Tschudi of Mount Gilead, Jack Finck of Evansville, Indiana, and Michael (Kathy) Finck of Sunbury; eight grandchildren: Janae (Tom) Tschudi-Evatt, Jefre (Cora) Tschudi, Jennifer (David) Simpson, Sgt. Jonathon Tschudi, Julie Harrison, Jill Jordan, Sarah (Dave) Long, and Suzanne (Mike) Wentzel; twelve great-grandchildren with one on the way.

In addition to her husband and parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Dr. Gerald Tschudi, sister, Nanna Dungan, and half brother, Burr Bowers.

Her family will observe private services at the Trinity United Methodist Church, with Pastor Ron Heasley officiating.

Arrangements were entrusted to Snyder Funeral Homes of Mount Gilead.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church, 75 E. High St., Mount Gilead, Ohio, 43338.
