Mount Gilead, Ohio
Dorothy M. Emmons, age 79, of Mount Gilead, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, August 22, 2020, after a brief illness with her heart.
Dorothy was born on January 12, 1941, in Hamilton, Co, to the late Charles L. and Eunice B. (Barcus) Styer.
On October 5, 1959, Dorothy married the love of her life Dean B. Emmons who preceded her in death in 2015.
Dorothy enjoyed being active in her community. For most of her life, Dorothy has given her time volunteering for organizations such as No Limits Outreach and the Edison Enterprise Baptist Church Food Pantry. She spent some time at Burcliff Industry, Frey Farms, and tending to Maple Grove Cemetery as well.
Always on the go, Dorothy enjoyed having something to do and assisting the needs of others. She crocheted many pot holders of which became gifts to others. She also enjoyed tending to her garden and helping in her daughter’s garden as they gathered vegetables. In her spare time she enjoyed playing cards, especially Skip-Bo. She also enjoyed Rootbeer, popcorn, and attending the breakfasts at the State Park. Dorothy always loved her family, even if it meant sometimes showing them some tough love. She will be dearly missed.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Jerry Emmons, Nancy Emmons, and Carla Emmons-Will; grandchild: Amber (Cody) Douglas; great grandchildren: Ryan and Paisley Douglas and Abby Woody; brother, Robert (Bonnie) Styer; sisters: Helen (Dale) Bowersmith and Jane (Ralph) Bartlett; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean; parents: Charles and Eunice; granddaughter, Candy Mae Emmons; brothers: John, Roy, Jack, James, Donald, and Chuck Styer; and sisters: Virginia Styer, Anna Hankins, and Patricia Graves.
A celebration of her life will be held on September 19, 2020, 11 AM, at the Mt. Gilead Glory Baptist Church, with Pastor Jeff Deel officiating. (600 N. Main St., Mount Gilead, OH 43338). A meal for the family will be provided at another location following the service.
The family extends a special thank you to Dorothy’s niece, Terry Roush, for opening up her home for Dorothy to come home to and for all the extra’s she has provided the family during Dorothy’s illness.
