Dorothy Lucille West, age 78, of Mt. Vernon passed away Thursday September 1, 2011 at Emeritus at HillenVale Nursing Home.
She was born on May 16, 1933 in Columbus to the late Woodrow Darby and Lucille (McCartney) Graham. A lifelong wife, mother, and grandmother, she moved to Mt. Vernon in 1979 from Columbus.
A wonderful cook her spaghetti and meatballs will long be remembered. She enjoyed dogs, working with ceramics and watching John Wayne movies. Dorothy also collected Indian and Southwest Native American items as well as cows and bells. Her social time was enjoyed with her friends of her water aerobics class.
Patient and strong willed Dorothy loved unconditionally. She always made time for those whom she loved and was a terrific hugger. Humble in every aspect of her life, her favorite place was home, surrounded by her beloved family. Never late for a meal, she loved to eat with family and friends and share in a good laugh or two.
She is survived by children, Paul (Mary) West of Mt. Vernon, Steve (Mona) West of Sunbury, Judy (Ron) D’Andrea of Columbus, Toni (Alan) Moose of Columbus, 11 Grandchildren: Jodi Woerner, Michele (John) Kerschner, Mella (Jack) Curtis, Molly (Matt) Calhoun, Brian (Jessica) West, Melissa (Ernie) Clark, Nicole (Bill) Crabtree, David (Tracey) Moose, Daniel (Holly) Moos, Todd D’Andrea, Amiee D’Andrea, numerous Great-grandchildren, Brothers, Charles (Charlotte) Darby, of Springhill Florida, Marvin (Pat) Darby, of Columbus, and Brother-in-law: Jerry (Marie) West of Centerburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Paul “Tony” West in 2002. Like two peas in a pod, she was his calendar girl, his everything. Ira C. Graham whom raised her and who she considered as her father and mother Lucille Graham also preceded in death.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR’s 3 at 61, Sunbury with Rev. David Lippert officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Memorial Park. Friends may call one hour prior to the services and Friday 6-8 p.m.
