She was born on August 16, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Ralph and Margaret (VanAlsburg) Jongedyk. Dorothy graduated from Iowa State College with degrees in English and home economics.
She moved to Berlin Township in 1950 with her first husband Earl Strayer. He was instrumental in the planning and development of many of the Ohio State Parks. She and Earl were founding members of the Delaware Bible Church and after 28 years of marriage, he died in 1976.
In her younger years, she dabbled with sculpture and her interest in art continued throughout her life both on the canvas and drawing board. She enjoyed flowers and the management of the family home and farmstead. Always loving and supportive she will be remembered for her impeccable integrity and respected for her tolerant and endearing qualities.
Dorothy married her second husband of 30 years: William Jones in 1978. Together they raised Piedmontes beef cattle on the same homestead near Alum Creek. During the early 1990’s, they traveled extensively throughout the Northwest, Pacific, and Eastern coasts each summer. Dorothy’s precise and regimented nature complimented William. They attended the Riverside Bible Church. Unwavering in her Christian faith, she lived a Bible centered life.
