Dorothy L. Bailey, age 85, of Prospect and formerly of Marion, died Thursday morning, June 7, 2012, at her daughter’s residence following a hard fought battle with cancer.
On October 30, 1926, Dorothy was born in Marion County, one of three children of the late Arthur Vern and Effie Grace (Osborn) Stratton. She graduated from Waldo High School in the Class of 1944.
Shortly following graduation, Dorothy married her loving and understanding husband, Nelson C. Bailey, on August 10, 1946. They shared forty seven years together, until he died on September 7, 1993.
For many years, Dorothy enjoyed tending to her family’s vegetable garden and planting flowers. She also had cared for her family as a homemaker.
She is survived by her caring daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Dwight Altvater of Prospect; four grandchildren: Timothy (Poni) Altvater of California, Kristen Bailey of Marion, Deana Altvater of Illinois, and Matthew (Penny) Altvater of Kentucky; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband and parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her son, Michael Bailey; and two brothers: Everett and Lowell Stratton.
Dorothy’s family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion. Funeral services will also be held there on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Waldo Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Marion General Hospital Hospice, and they may be sent to the care of the funeral home.
