Dorothy Jean Thomas

March 26, 1951 ‒ June 07, 2018

Marion, Ohio

Dorothy (Dotti) Jean Thomas (Benedict), age 67, of Marion, passed away Thursday June 7, 2018 peacefully at Mt. Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital.

Dotti was born in Marion, Ohio on March 26, 1951.  She graduated from Marion Harding High School and later obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from The Ohio State University.

She retired from Verizon after working many years as a budget analyst. She didn’t want to sit still after retirement and began working at Lowes in the customer service department. She was very loved by all of her coworkers, who said she never failed to put smiles on their faces.

Dotti was fiercely independent and strong willed. She loved to travel across the U.S. and especially loved visiting New Orleans with her cousins during Mardi Gras. Dotti’s cousins were truly like her sisters, and they loved to take trips together, and play cards around the no-kids-allowed card table. Dotti also loved playing Bingo with her close friends, would never pass up a trip to the mall, and absolutely loved Disney movies (she had a huge collection). Dotti was especially proud of her daughter Dawn and her beautiful family, and loved spending quality time with them.

Dotti married her husband Jim in 1988 and they spent 20 wonderful years together, taking their family on great trips and loving everything about their life together.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Dawn (Brian) Batross of Lewis Center, granddaughters, Hailey and Kaylee Batross and sister, Patricia Benedict of Colorado, along with countless cousins and friends at Lowes.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her mother, Madeline (Burke) Benedict, and her husband, James (Jim) Thomas.

Private burial will take place at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Big Island Township.

In lieu of flowers the family is asking that financial donations be made to the American Heart Association in Dotti’s name
