Doris V. Wissler
July 02, 1918 ‒ May 02, 2016
Doris V. Wissler, age 97, of Marion, died peacefully Tuesday afternoon, May 2, 2016, at Marion Manor following an extended illness.
On July 2, 1918, Doris was born in Galia County, Ohio, one of three children of the late Carl and Stella (Baird) VanZant. She graduated from Marion Harding High School in the class of 1937.
Shortly following graduation, Doris married the love of her life, John Wissler, on April 18, 1939. Together they shared over fifty four years of marriage, and lovingly raised five children. He preceded her in death on December 10, 1993.
A loving homemaker to her husband and children, Doris took pride in caring for her family. She was great in the kitchen, and especially enjoyed when she would make breads and sweets for them.
Doris was a faithful member of St. Mary Church, where she was a part of the Over 55 Club and helped with the Rummage Store.
Always up for an adventure, Doris loved camping with her husband and family. They started in one of the first Hi-Lo Travel Trailers and upgraded several times over the years. She
enjoyed their excursions even into her 80’s.
Very thrifty, Doris could find a use for anything, and she enjoyed making crafts, cross-stitching, and sewing. She also loved tending to her flowers, and reading novels and books on history.
Cherishing her family, Doris loved to hear stories about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and would light up at the thought of them.
She will be missed by her four children: Patricia (Richard) Crepeau of Florida, Maryann Morbitt of Marion, Gregory (Cheryl) Wissler of Windam, ME, and Michael Wissler of Indianapolis, IN; a daughter-in-law, Jo Ann Wissler; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; a niece and two nephews.
Including her husband and parents, Doris was preceded in death by her son, Richard Wissler; a son-in-law, Charley Morbitt; and two brothers.
Her family will greet friends from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Church (address below) on Saturday, May 7, 2016. Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10:30 a.m., with Father Thomas Buffer officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made St. Mary Church, 251 N. Main St., Marion, OH 43302, or St. Bonaventure Indian Mission and School, P. O. Box 610, Thoreau, NM 87323.
On behalf of her family, they would like to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to the staff at Primrose Retirement Community for their eight years of care, Marion Manor for their four months of care, and Heartland Hospice for their recent care.
