Doris Mae Schropp
August 09, 1928 ‒ June 21, 2011
Doris Mae Schropp, age 82, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2011, at Chestnut House in Newark, Ohio, surrounded by her loving family.
Doris was born on August 9, 1928, in Newburg, West Virginia, the only child of Russell A. and Bernice D. (Criss) Goff. As a young child, Doris moved with her parents to Mansfield, Ohio, where she graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1946.
On January 17, 1947, Doris married Arnold J. Schropp, Sr., and they established their home in Mansfield, where they raised their son, Arnie J. Schropp, Jr.
She was a professional woman, who worked as an office manager at M. O’Neil Company, George Fox Collection Agency, and Radiology Associates, retiring in 1992.
She was proud of her membership at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and her association with the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 9943.
In 1988, Doris and Arnold bought a home in Englewood, Florida, where they spent their winters. After Arnold’s death in 1999, Doris moved to Florida full-time.
She was very active in her community, Lemon Bay Isles, and served as Treasurer for the homeowners’ association for many years. The true joy of Doris’ life was her family. There was nothing she loved more than watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play, develop, and grow into the wonderful young people she was so proud of. And, pride sparkled in her eyes as she told of the successes and accomplishments of her son.
Doris touched many lives, and she will be sadly missed by the many friends and family she leaves behind, including her son, Arnie J. (Melanie) Schropp, Jr.; grandson, A. Erick (Jane) Schropp; granddaughter, Amber L. Beer; grandson, Craig E. (Ashley) Walter; and great-grandchildren, Darci Otto, Ryan Schropp, Jonah Schropp, A.J. Beer, and Brody Schropp.
Much appreciation and love to the staff of Chestnut House and Odyssey Hospice for the kind and gentle care they provided our mother, grandmother, and friend this past year.
A celebration of Doris’ life will be held in the Finefrock Chapel of the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home on Saturday, July 2, 2011 from 12 to 2 pm.
In lieu of flowers, Doris’ family requests donations be made to Odyssey Hospice, 540 Officenter Place, Suite 100, Gahanna, Ohio 43230.
