Donna J. Walker

October 11, 1961 ‒ January 21, 2019

Ashley, Ohio

Donna J. Walker, 57, of Ashley passed away early Monday morning, January 21, 2019 at St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville.

She was born October 11, 1961 in Columbus to the late Alton and Margaret (Shepherd) Walker and graduated from Delaware Hayes High School, where she was very active in the marching band and stage crew.

Donna was co-founder of D&D Computer Services. It was largely focused on supporting local schools, groups, and churches. Countless students have worn her custom (“Class of”, opera, and musical) shirts. In 2016, she was awarded the “Baron Award of Excellence” in acknowledgement of her decades of support, by the President’s Council of the Buckeye Valley Local Schools. A proud “Pacer”, this was testament to her boundary-less sense of community spirit. For her it wasn’t about the shirts, it was about the love of growing pride in children.

Donna was co-owner of Double D Sound. As such, she spent thousands of hours listening to music and enjoying the various bands. A good show meant she’d been lifted by the music to dancing with the crowd. She also served as an EMT with Medic Transport in Columbus, a police officer with the Village of Ashley, and a public safety officer with Ohio Wesleyan University.

She enjoyed playing softball, singing, producing sound for live bands, going to the casino, and cooking. All of which was happiest when done with family and friends. A person of deep faith, her greatest joy was doing for others – all the while with humility, humbleness and compassion. It wasn’t unheard of for her to discreetly deliver a box of food, comfort a dying friend or their family, or help out without ever being asked. Ultimately, she was a kid at heart, full of innocence and wonder. The older she got, the more her eyes twinkled with glee when she’d stomp a puddle dry, walk barefoot in the grass, on the sandy beach, or play in the snow.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving companion and partner in crime of 26 years, Diane Sargent of Ashley; brother, Robert “Bob” (Sue) Walker of Delaware; nephews, Robert Walker Jr. of Delaware, JD (Tari) Jenkins and Roger Sargent; nieces, Laurie (Junior) Yates of Delaware, Alyssa (Craig) Newton of Darwin, Australia, Tasha (Nick) Howard, and Christina Sargent; great nieces, Rachel and Lauren Yates, McKensi, Carlissa and Taylor Jenkins, Emili Howard, and Amelia Sargent; great nephews, Ian Walker, Cameron Smith and Jake Howard; great-great niece, Presley Mclellan; special family friends, Sherman (Jackie) Sargent and Frank (Sandy) Sargent; and a host of friends.

In addition to her parents, Donna was preceded in death by her brother John Walker.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 12:00 – 2:00 pm at the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center, 101 Valleyside Drive (formerly 1510 W. William Street), Delaware. Services celebrating Donna’s life will immediately follow at 2:00 pm with Pastor Kip Boggs officiating. A reception will then be held in the Snyder-Rodman Community Room. Entombment will be at a later date at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Donna loved all animals. Contributions in Donna’s memory may be made to the Humane Society of Delaware County, 4920 SR 37 E, Delaware, Ohio 43015, or a charity of your choice.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Mark Segal, Dr. Tarak Chidiac, Dr. Abhay Sudhir Gokhale, Dr. Bradley Kunz, Mt. Carmel Radiation Oncology, The Zangmeister Cancer Center of Columbus, St. Ann’s Hospital, Margaret, Lisa, Brooke, Debbie, Jill, Kristin, Candy, Grace, Linda, Darlene, Tom, and so many more caring people that made up “Team Donna”. You all were true angels on earth.
