Donna DeWalt

December 23, 1957 ‒ October 08, 2010

Mansfield, Ohio

MANSFIELD: Years ago, in Covey Hill Baptist Church, Donna DeWalt accepted Christ as her Savior. Donna’s faith was evident by her works. Described as the “caretaker” Donna always served others but more importantly served Christ. Malachi 4:2 reads, “but for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings”. Now healed and not bound by her earthly body, Donna DeWalt went to dance with the Lord on Friday, October 8, 2010 after a courageous battle with breast cancer.

Donna was born December 23, 1957 in Kalamazoo, Michigan the daughter of Floyd and Gladys (Delbridge) Van Meter and graduated from Loy Norrix High School. While living in Mansfield, Donna earned her Associates Degree in Human Services from North Central State College.

Donna had a soft spot for abused children and felt it her calling to serve them. She had volunteered for HUGS and RFKC (Royal Family Kids Camp) both support groups for abused children. Through Shepherd’s Care Ministries she became friends with Pastor Mike Chalberg, who also reaches out to the abused. She also worked as a caretaker, home health aid and librarian for Mansfield Christian School.

“Let them praise his name with dancing and make music to him with tambourine and harp”, Psalm 149:3. In 1990, Donna began her membership at Grace Fellowship. She was a faithful member of BAD (Blessed Anointed Delivered), Grace Fellowship’s spiritual dance team where she was able to share Christ’s love, through dance, in Puerto Rico. Donna volunteered for Youth for Christ and GOALS.

Royalty, spirituality, nobility, and wisdom all represent Donna’s favorite color, purple. These attributes reveal Donna’s spiritual strength. She loved butterflies, scrap booking, and reading. Donna will be remembered for her sweet spirit, and love and devotion for her children and grandchildren.

Donna is survived by her husband John Paul DeWalt; daughters Melissa (Jadaé) Fox, Elizabeth “Biz” Pryor and her companion Adrian Purnell; sons Harrison and Nicholas DeWalt all of Mansfield; grandchildren Scarlett Pryor, Malachi Fox and Ariana Purnell; friend David Russell; son-in-law Bruce Pryor; brothers and sisters Floyd Jr., Frances, Barbara, Nancy, Emma Mae, James, Vester, Clarence, Ronnie, and Robert; special friends Mary Schuring, Nancy Solon, Randall and Paula York, and Matt and Karen Godsil; the men on her hit list; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and a large circle of friends.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her grandson Nehemiah Fox.

The DeWalt family will receive friends, Sunday October 10, 2010 from 3-5pm in the auditorium of Grace Fellowship Church, 365 Straub Road East, Mansfield, Ohio. Worship services celebrating the life of Donna DeWalt will be Monday at 5pm in the church auditorium with visitation beginning the hour prior.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorial contributions be made to the DeWalt Family Educational Fund, to benefit her children’s education or the Donna DeWalt Memorial Fund, to assist her grandchildren.
