Donald Robert Weaver

He was a quiet man who loved his God, his family, his church and Morrow County. On December 19th 2008 Donald Robert Weaver died in the presence of his family. Don had lived a full 74 years. He was born on September 18, 1934 to the late Lawrence and Edith Mae Weaver. When he was in the second grade he told his mother that he was going to marry Jackie Leasure and on November 22, 1953 they were wed. They had just celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. They had three children and their spouses, Rick and Donna Weaver, Dena and Tom Beckett and Ed and Debi Weaver. There are 9 granddaughters and 4 spouses along with 4 great-grandsons. Kim, David and Garrett Herrin, Sue , Jonny, Brandon, Caiden and Daniel Burleson, Danielle Lyle, Melissa Weaver, Bethany and Vann Burden, Jessica Lynn Weaver, Jami Weaver, Jenee and Matt Cochern and Jessica Morgan Weaver.

At an early age Don started working with his father in the grocery business and that became his occupation. The family owned and operated Weaver’s IGA and the Gamble’s store. His brother Larry (Sharon) and deceased brother Gerald (Gloria) were part of the business as well. His sister Charlotte (Dick) West also survives. After serving as a Morrow County Commissioner for 12 years, they owned and operated Weaver’s Vac Shop out of their home.

He enjoyed playing golf, his men’s bridge club, most any card game, mowing the lawn and camping trips with the Travelin’ Tribe.

Don had served in various capacities with the following organizations or boards: Boy Scouts of America where he received the coveted Silver Beaver Award, Morrow County Airport Authority, Tri-Rivers JVS, Mt. Gilead Board of Education, Jaycees, Mt. Gilead Chamber of Commerce, Morrow County Farm Bureau, Mt. Gilead Lodge No.206 F and A.M., Scottish Rite, Morrow County Democrat Party and an honorary member of the United Methodist Women.

In more recent years Don was on the Morrow County Hospital Board of Director’s Morrow County Board of Elections, Kiwanis International, Prison Ministries and Gideon’s International. He was an avid supporter of the DKMM Solid Waste District.

Trinity United Methodist Church was his place of worship. He had represented the church in both local and district positions.

Don will be sadly missed by nieces and nephews and many cousins, and an Aunt Irene Ault of Mount Gilead.

Calling hours will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church on Sunday December 21, 2008 from 3-6 p.m. with Masonic services being held at 6:00 p.m. Pastor Ron Heasley will conduct services at the church on Monday at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Gideon’s International, Morrow County Camp, P.O. Box 204, Mount Gilead, Ohio 43338 or Trinity United Methodist Church, 75 East High Street, Mount Gilead, Ohio 43338.
