Donald L. Schaadt

December 22, 1941 ‒ November 04, 2016

Marion, Ohio

Donald Leroy Schaadt, age 74, of Marion passed away Friday, November 4, 2016 at Marion General Hospital.

Donald was born in Marion, Ohio on December 22, 1941 to the late Carl F. and Edith Mae (Brewer) Schaadt.

Don was a proud graduate from the first class of the newly built Ridgedale High School in 1959.  After graduating, Don enlisted into the US Navy serving his Country during the Vietnam War on the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk.  While enlisted, he spent 16 months on Midway Island where he logged over a thousand hours in flight time fueling planes working as an Aviation Fuel Technician.  Also during this time, Don was responsible for the on-flight radar barrier control where he would fly to and from Midway Island to the Aleutian Islands located in the Bering Sea monitoring the skies.

When Donald returned home, he married Cheryl Richards on October 3, 1964.  Together they shared over 52 years of marriage raising two children, loving three grandchildren and were lifelong members of Emanuel Lutheran Church.  During Donald’s working years, he was employed at BF Goodrich/Stratoflex/Parker Hannifin; he retired after more than 40 years of service.

To say Don enjoyed spending time with his family is an understatement.  He could often be found with his son camping, fishing and hunting and enjoying a nice cold beer in Bowling Green with his daughter.  In later years, his three grandchildren could be found swimming in HIS pool enjoying long summer days together.

Being a proud Veteran he was a member of The VFW Post 3313 and a life member of The American Legion 162.  He instilled in his family that there were only three options in life: the right way, the wrong way and the Navy Way.  Later in life, Don had the opportunity to travel from Hawaii to California on a Tiger Cruise where he was asked to help refuel a fighter jet.  He did so without missing a step.

In Don’s free time, he and Cheryl enjoyed singing karaoke, where he was best known for his version of Frank Sinatra’s song “My Way.” When he wasn’t with his family, he could be found watching his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes and Cincinnati Reds.

Don will be missed by his wife, Cheryl; children, Brian (Ronda) Schaadt and Amy (Michael) Pirnstill both of Marion; grandchildren, Mason Schaadt and Logan and Aaron Pirnstill; brother, John (Darlene) Schaadt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Donald’s honor to Emanuel Lutheran Church Child Care or The Marion Area Humane Society.

A memorial service will be held 1:00 pm on December 3, 2016 at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 241 S. Prospect St., Marion, with Pastor Mark Schuring officiating. Private family burial will take place at a later day.

Snyder Funeral Home, GUNDER/HALL Chapel is honored to serve the Schaadt family.
