Donald Edwin Erb Sr., 89, of Delaware passed away early Friday morning, October 1, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born October 24, 1931 in Nelsonville, Ohio to the late Roy and Ruth (Skiver) Erb. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy and on May 23, 1953, he married the love of his life Shirley Joanne DaRe. Together they shared 68 years of marriage.

Don worked for DuPont Paint Company and retired after 35 years. He was a devoted, faithful and very active member of the Eastside Mission Church in Delaware. Quite the jokester, he enjoyed fishing, woodworking and hunting and collecting arrowheads.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Joanne; children, Don Jr. (Suzanne Howell) of Delaware, Sharla Erb of Wellston, Steve (Geneva Garrabrant) Erb of Hilliard and Edith Diane (Thomas) Lowe of Bryan, Texas; 6 grandchildren and 9 greatgrandchildren; brothers, Lester and Richard Erb of Canton; sister, Barbara Cooke of Canton; numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his brother Charles and 2 sisters Ellen McMillen and Janet Erb.

Services celebrating Don’s life will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 3:00 pm at the Eastside Mission Church, 32 Joy Ave., Delaware. Pastor Donnie Akers will officiate and the Delaware County Veterans Association will provide military honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services.

    I will always remember the softball game in your side yard when Mr. Don hit that line drive and put a big knot on my head. I couldn’t get that right-handed glove switched fast enough!
