Donald E. Cummins
June 26, 1935 ‒ September 08, 2013
Donald Edward Cummins, 78, of Ashley passed away early Sunday morning September 8, 2013 at the Heartland of Centerburg after a four month battle to overcome the effects of heart attack suffered May 9th.
He was born June 26, 1935 in Raymond, Ohio to Thurman and Esther (Middleton) Cummins and was a lifelong resident of the Ashley area.
Don graduated from Elm Valley High School in 1954, served his country as a member of the United States Navy, and in 1956 he married Patricia Rhoden. Together they raised their children Mike and Yolanda over their 53 years of marriage. He retired from the Nippert Company and in his later years was known to many as Mr. C of Mr. C Lock & Key. Don really looked forward to visits to his son’s home in Montana especially to enjoy his morning coffee while watching the sun come up from his son’s house deck. He had a great sense humor, was always direct and to the point, and you always knew where you stood with him. Don was an excellent provider for his family, a father who was certain to be involved in all of his children’s activities and a loving grandfather. He particularly cherished his weekends with Kyle and was a shameless collector of ball hats.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Mike Cummins and his wife Julie of Kalispell, Montana; grandchildren, Sarah Cummins of Kalispell, Montana, Nickolas Frentsos of Bozeman, Montana, Benjamin Frentsos of Cluj, Romania as well as former son-in-law David Moorhead, grandson Kyle Moorhead of Ashley, brother Gene Cummins of Ashley and sister Sondra Horton of Sunbury. In the last year of his life, Don found joy in reuniting with his high school sweetheart Mary Crump. He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia, daughter Yolanda Moorhead and a brother Richard Cummins.
The family will receive friends on Thursday September 12th from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 pm at the Bennett-Brown-Rodman and Snyder Funeral Home, 307 E. High St., Ashley and where funeral services will be held on Friday September 13th at 1:00 pm with Rev. Cindy Berkshire officiating. Burial will follow in Ashley Union Cemetery with the Delaware County Veterans Association folding and presenting the flag at graveside.
