Donald Donnie Ray Carrel

Donald “Donnie” Ray Carrel, age 65, of Marion, passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Riverside Methodist Hospital following a brief illness. Donnie was a lifelong resident of Marion. He was born March 1, 1947 to the late Marquis L and Wilma Pauline (Stiverson) Carrel. He never married. Donnie graduated from Marion Harding High School Class of 1965. He briefly attended Ohio Northern University until he drafted into the US Army. He served in Korea during the Vietnam Era. After returning from service, he worked at The Marion Whirlpool Corporation. He works as an automated press line setter and operator until an industrial accident stop him from working in 1988.
During the mid-60’s Donnie was on the North/South all-stars team for basketball, as a high point shooter, at the Marion Coliseum. He once enjoyed gardening and beers with friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, infant brother, and a sister, Wilma D. Kingsley. He is survived by a brother-in-law, Roger L (Esther) Kingsley of Lakeland, Fl.; a niece, Lisa K Camm; a nephew, Mark A (Kim) Kingsley; great-nieces, Mary Camm; and great-nephews, Christopher K. (Megan) Camm of Fostoria, OH, Benjamine M. Camm, and Wyatt A Kingsley all of Marion; along with numerous cousins and friends. Donnie will be missed by all.
Friends may call Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors from 9 until 10:30AM. A graveside service will be held 11 AM at the La Rue Cemetery with Rev. Merlyn Winters officiating and Military Honors presented by the Marion County United Veterans Council. Memorial donations may be made to the Marion County United Veterans Council.
