MANSFIELD: Donald C. Walter, 77, of Holiday Drive, Mansfield, died Saturday afternoon, November 12, 2005 in The Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky, following a long illness.

He was born April 28, 1928 in Cleveland to John G. and Elsie (Kersten) Walter, attained Eagle Scout on March 13, 1945 with Boy Scout Troop #34, was graduated from James Ford Rhodes High School in 1946, and attended Cleveland State University.

Donald served as a Specialist, 2nd Class, with the US Army in Alaska.

In 1966 he moved to Mansfield from Cleveland. Here he worked 20 years as an engineer with the Tappan Company, retiring in 1991.

Donald was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Mansfield Sailing Club, and past president of the Lexington High School Music Boosters.

An amatuer pianist, Donald enjoyed classical music and attending concerts.

He enjoyed both gardening and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife Maxine M. (Selnau) Walter, whom he married April 29, 1950; daughter and son-in-law Holly Walter Kerby and Robert Kerby, son Blake T. Walter all of Madison, Wisconsin; two grandchildren Claire Walter Kerby and Anne Walter Kerby.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Violet Zehnal.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 16, 2005 from 5-8 pm in the Parlor of First Presbyterian Church, 399 South Trimble Road, Mansfield. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11 am in the church sanctuary, officiated by the Rev. Dr. David F. Hartzfeld. The Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.

An interment service will be held Friday at 11 am in Brooklyn Heights Cemetery, 4700, Broadview Road, Cleveland.
