Dolores Jean Detrow

March 15, 1927 ‒ May 22, 2017

Mansfield, Ohio

Dolores Jean Detrow passed away Monday, May 22, 2017 in Winchester Terrace Nursing Home surrounded by her family. She was 90.

She was born March 15, 1927 to parents Jonathan & Orpha (Smetzler) Perrine in Mansfield. After Dolores graduated from Mansfield Senior High School with the class of 1945, she married Harold Dean Detrow November 15, 1947 and they shared 54 wonderful years together until he passed away in 2002.

A Homemaker, Dolores took pride and joy in taking care of her four children. She was also active outside the home with Uniwives, Mother’s Club, the PTA, and worked for a short time with Mademoiselle Dress Shop.  As long time member of East Hills Presbyterian Church, Dolores served as an Elder and was very involved in church activities.

In spare time, she took pleasure in playing golf, traveling, and spending time at the Detrow family cabin in Michigan. But above all, Dolores cherished her family, and she will be great missed by all who love her.

She is survived by her children Wray C. (Selena) Detrow, Darla (Thomas) Hipp, Kathy (Mike) Greathouse, and Becky (Mike) Shumate; grandchildren Christa Hipp, Mark (Tracy) Hipp), Kenneth (Lauren) Hipp, Mike Greathouse, Karin Greathouse, Jennifer Shumate, and Jamie Price; 9 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her loving husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers David R. Perrine, and Carlton L. Perrine.

Dolores’s family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the staff members at Winchester Terrace Nursing Home and OhioHealth Hospice for their excellent care and compassion.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 11 a.m. with an hour prior of calling in the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. Celebrant Dave Roberts will officiate with burial to follow in Mansfield Cemetery.

For contributions in her memory, make checks payable to The James Cancer Center or OhioHealth Hospice and bring or send to the funeral home.
