Dolores J. “Dory” Purdy, age 88, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at Licking Memorial Hospital in Newark, Ohio.  She was born on January 25, 1933 in Medina, Ohio the daughter of Chester and Ellora (Davis) Simmons.  Dory enjoyed being a nurse and worked as an LPN for several hospitals before retiring from Knox Community Hospital.

She was a longtime member of the Colonial City Moose Lodge and First Christian Church of Mount Vernon.  Dory enjoyed dancing, from ball room to square dancing, if her feet were moving, she was happy.  She also liked to play cards, scrabble, golf and always looked forward to her annual trips to Las Vegas.

Dory is survived by three grandchildren; Shaun (Megan) Bemiller, Kyle (Erin) Bemiller and Jason (Michele) Bemiller; five great grandchildren, Cole Bemiller, Paige Bemiller, Matthew Bemiller, Amanda Bemiller, Nicholas Bemiller and a brother, Larry Simmons of Millwood.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands Bruce Walters and Harold Purdy and her son, Rick Bemiller.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday February 27, 2021 beginning at 2 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High Street, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050 where friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of service.

Memorial contributions in Dory’s name may be made to the Knox County Humane Society.

From bringing me cookies and treats over to always being very pleasant to talk with.You could always find her working in her yard with a smile on her face.   • Dory and my mom and dad, Paul & Margie Souers were very good friends with Dory and Harold, then Bruce. They golfed together, went to Vegas etc. My mom and dad are both gone now. I just lost Mom on the 17th of November. Hope they are having a wonderful reunion together. Deepest sympathy to her family. Dory was such a sweetheart. Lots of good memories of her.
