MANSFIELD: Derek Ryan Dougherty, 19, of Mansfield, died Tuesday September 6, 2005.

He was born April 17, 1986 in Mansfield, and remained a lifelong resident.

Derek had attended both Lexington and Madison Schools, where he excelled on the football field. Always athletic and sports minded, he was mindful of keeping in shape, and was often found at the Mansfield YMCA working out.

Popular and outgoing, he had a love for dirt biking and motorcycling. His fondness of cooking had pointed him in the direction of culinary school.

He had recently taken a job with Premier Car Wash.

Derek will be remembered for his thoughtfulness, protective nature, good heart, big brown eyes, feisty spirit and dazzling smile.

He is survived by his mother Linda (Fava) Dougherty of Mansfield; his father and stepmother Tom and Karen Dougherty of Mansfield; sister and brother-in-law Desiree’ Dougherty-Smith and Aaron Smith and nephew whom he dearly loved Austin Smith all of Mansfield; sister Danielle Dougherty, sister Christina Dougherty, and brother Bryan Dougherty all of Mansfield; maternal aunts and uncles Rosemary Yates, Anna Horner, Tony Fava, Frank and Charlene Fava and Dino and Pam Fava all of Mansfield; paternal aunts and uncles Darcel Moloney and Dana and Jeff Nusbaum all of Mansfield and Terry and Regina Dougherty of Ashland; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Frank and Maria Fava and paternal grandparents Ellis and Marilyn Dougherty.

The family will receive friends Friday, September 9, 2005 from 1 to 3 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where the funeral service will follow at 3 pm. Pastor Jack Sharp will officiate. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to the Derek R. Dougherty Memorial Fund may be made at the funeral home.
