Dennis Jay Van Fossen, age 49, of Harcourt Rd., Mount Vernon, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2005 at his residence. He was born April 12, 1955 in Mount Vernon to Dale Leon and Marietta (Adams) Van Fossen who survive him. Dennis was a veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1973-1976 receiving the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Humanitarian Service Medal. He was a former employee of the Ohio Department of Transportation, a volunteer for Adult Daycare Center and a life member of the V.F.W. Post #4027.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother Roger L. Van Fossen of Worthington, Ohio, two sisters and brothers-in-law; Beth (David) Sheffer of Mount Vernon, and Kay (Tom) Moreland of Centerburg, a nephew Curt (Brandie) Sheffer, three nieces; Melissa (William) Ho, Katelyn and Kara Moreland and a grand-niece Whitney Ho.

A service celebrating the life of Dennis Van Fossen will be held Monday, March 14, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. David A. Baker officiating and military honors will be provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service. Interment in Southlawn Cemetery in Utica, Ohio will be held at a later date.
