Dennis E. Foster, age 63, of Tamarack Drive, Mount Vernon, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday January 30, 2009 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on August 2, 1945 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Charles “Shorty” and Erma Jean (Amsbaugh) Foster. Denny was a 1963 graduate of Mount Vernon High School. He worked as an officer and detective for 27 years before retiring in 1993 from the Mount Vernon Police Department. He worked 13 years as a detective and Captain before retiring in 2007 from the Knox County Sheriffs Office. Denny was chosen by his fellow officer’s as Mount Vernon Police Department police officer of the year in 1980 and in 1988. He was a member of the Buckeye Sheriffs Association, METRICH, Moose of Mount Vernon and Colonial City Baptist Church in Bangs. Denny loved serving the City of Mount Vernon and Knox County and while doing so, he was fortunate enough to meet a lot of good people and make some great friends.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Pam (Jones) Foster, his children, Beth Foster of Mount Vernon, Amy (William) Moran of Howard, Kimberlea (Adam) Riley-Dudgeon of Newark, Dale Riley of Mount Vernon, four grandchildren, Chance Moran, Cade Moran, Annabella Moran and Kayla Riley, a sister, Barbara (Steven) Estep of Howard, half brother and sisters, Robert (Karen) White of Granville, Roberta (Mike) Magers of Newark, Linda (Harry) Liming of Johnstown, Donna (Joe) Gutridge of Mount Vernon and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Wendy Foster and sister, Marcia Fawcett.

Friends may call on Monday, February 2, 2009 from 5 to 8 PM at the Colonial City Baptist Church, 7530 Johnstown Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 12 PM, at the church, where friends may call two hours before. Burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery in Mount Vernon.
