Delmore L. Martin

Delmore L. Martin, age 92, of Marion, Ohio, died at 3:02 a.m. Monday morning, March 27, 2006, at the Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation Center of Marion.
He was born in Tacoma, Washington, on July 1, 1913, the son of the late Lawrence and Hazel (Schaller) Martin.
Delmore was a veteran of World War II, commissioned in the U.S. Army Transportation Corp, but served aboard a Navy Ship, “The Admiral Sims,” as a transport commander. This troop ship carried 5000 passengers and had a crew of 1000.
In Fort Wayne, Indiana, on August 3, 1943, Del married his wife of over 57 years, Evelyn J. (Bower) Martin, who preceded him in death on December 15, 2000.
Delmore had served as the Executive Art Director for Lord, Sullivan & Yoder Advertising Company, Inc. Among his significant advertising awards, he won Best of Show at the National Canadian Advertising Art Show in Toronto from over 7000 entries. He won two gold medals from the New York Society of Illustrators, and his designs are in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. He was also a member of the National Society of Art Directors.
In Marion, he was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church and the Marion Country Club.
His extensive travels have taken him through most of the United States and to over 40 foreign countries.
Del is survived by two sons Larry (Marla) Martin of Ashland, Massachusetts, and Douglas (Cynthia Craig) Martin of Vista, California; and a sister Geraldine Shaw of Tacoma, Washington.
The family will greet friends on Thursday from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Denzer Farison Hottinger Funeral Home, 360 East Center Street, Marion.
