Della I. Van Hesteren

June 08, 1937 ‒ January 01, 2017

Lexington, Ohio

Della I. Van Hesteren passed away Sunday, January 1, 2017 in Ohio Health Mansfield Hospital surrounded by her family. She was 79.

She was born June 8, 1937 to parents Lee & Mary (Kibler) Sams in Mansfield. Della graduated from Mansfield Senior High School with the class of 1955 and later worked as telephone operator with United Telephone and Lazarus.

On July 29, 1967, she married Anthony Bruce Van Hesteren and they shared 49 wonderful years of marriage together.

In spare time, Della took pleasure in attending all the grandchildren’s sporting events, sometimes three or four in one day. She was the matriarch of the family and the glue that kept everyone together. If Della had any spare time she would be found at a garage or rummage sale finding her treasures. But above all, Della cherished every moment with her family and grandchildren and she will be truly missed by all that love her.

She is survived by husband Anthony Bruce Van Hesteren; children Scott (Anita) Van Hesteren, Judy (Rick) Gulley, Chris (Melanie) Van Hesteren, Betty Peay, Kimberly (John) Fry, Michelle (Bill) Emborski, and Beth (Russ) Foster; grandchildren Pete, Mike, Morgan, Stephen, Tony, Carmen, Ryan, Christopher, Jonathan, Rebecca, Matthew, Zachary, Jennifer, Brittany, Ashley and Abby; great grandchildren Devin,  Jenna, Mackaylah, Briana, Rylee, Blaize, Brieze, Uriah, Micah, Kiska, Shalyn and one on the way; siblings Allen (Linda) Sams, Sandra Sargent and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Bruce Van Hesteren Jr.; grandson Seth; siblings Lee Sams, Betty Gerhart, and Ronald Sams.

Della’s family will receive friends Thursday January 5, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home with a funeral service on Friday at 11 a.m. Celebrant Dave Roberts will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park.
