David W. McDonald

David “Wonderful” McDonald, age 78, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on Sunday January 27, 2019 at his residence.  He was born on March 28, 1940 in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Richard McDonald and Virginia Dohmen-Collins.

David graduated from North High School in Columbus and joined the United States Navy where he served proudly as a Plank Owner on the USS Enterprise.  He attended Ohio State University after his time in the Navy.  He worked for many years for Western and Southern Financial Group.   After retiring, he and his wife Winnie worked with Adults with Developmental Disabilities for 18 years.

He was a member of the Masonic Thrall Lodge #170 F&AM and the Mount Zion Lodge #9 F&AM, York Rite, Chapter Royal Arch Masons, Clinton Chapter #26 and Kinsman Counsel # 76.  David was a member of the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Mount Vernon, as well as a member of the Knox Chapter Order of the Eastern Star.  David enjoyed being a member of the Centerburg Conservation Club.  He loved fishing and target shooting, most of all he loved his wife, kids, grandchildren and his canine companions.

He is survived by his loving wife, Winnie (Dalie) McDonald; sons, Bert McDonald, Sam (Susan) McDonald; grandchildren, Alexa, David, Maya, Isabel, Ethan, and Esme; sisters, Dorothy Smith, Rebecca Difransco; a brother, Rick McDonald; numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, David is preceded in death by a Daughter-in-law, Claudia McDonald.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church; 101 E High Street, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050 with an hour prior of calling starting at 10:00 AM at the Parish House.
