David W. “Dave” Troyer

December 21, 1942 ‒ January 11, 2018

Mount Gilead, Ohio

David W. “Dave” Troyer, age 75, of Mount Gilead, passed away peacefully, Thursday Morning, January 11, 2018, at his residence.

He was born on December 21, 1942, in Plain City, OH, to the late Daniel D. and Fannie (Kuhns) Troyer. Dave graduated from Mount Gilead High School in the class of 1961.

After visiting and working in Florida, Dave met the love of his life: Barbara J. Morris. The two were united in marriage on February 8, 1964.

For close to 40 years, Dave was employed with C and D Chevrolet in the parts room. Many of those years he served as the parts manager.

A day without golf was rare for Dave as he lived for golf. Dave was a member of the Pine Lakes Golf Course and often entered in the various tournaments held there. When it came to his son-in-laws, he enjoyed taking them to the course as a rite of passage into his family and he truly loved them. For 25 plus years Dave also enjoyed taking a yearly golf trip with the guys to Santee, S.C. where he enjoyed the comradery of avid golfers.

When Dave wasn’t at the golf course you could find him at home reading a book, cheering on the Browns and Buckeyes, or tinkering in his garage. Dave enjoyed cooking for family and friends and had a special sauce for the ribs he made for every occasion. He was also a frequent flyer at the V.F.W.Post 8054, AmVets Post 87, and the Galion Moose. In his early years, Dave was a member of the Gilead Mennonite Church.

For Dave, the most important part of life was being with his family. Dave loved to travel and every other year was able to get together with all of his brothers, sisters, and their spouses with a special trip to the mountains of Tennessee. He was a wonderful husband, dad, and grandpa. Dave was always happy and always having it his way. He will be remembered by many as ornery as all get out but in a fun loving way as well.

Left to cherish his memory include his wife Barb; daughters: Mechelle (Kraig) Anderson, Dawn (Greg) Sweet, and Audrey (Scott) Kennedy- Lohr; grandchildren: Nicole (Wes) Perry, Jackie Anderson, Brooke Anderson, Lyndsay Sweet, Sydney Sweet, Payton Kennedy, Sam Kennedy, Broc Lohr, and Trent Lohr; great grandchildren: Zach Perry, Brynn Perry, Carter Fellure, and Jack Anderson; brothers: William (Betty) Troyer, Floyd (Deb) Troyer, Richard (Sandy) Troyer, Phillip (Cathy) Troyer, and Roger (Ingrid) Troyer; sisters: Edna Klentz and Sharon (Clyde) Perry; and numerous nieces, nephews, brother-in-laws, and sister-in-laws.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents and brother: John Troyer.

His family will greet friends from 4 to 7 PM on Monday, January 15, 2018, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel. A service will be held there on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at 11 AM, with neighbor and Pastor Mark Hulse officiating.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Ohio Health Hospice. (9278 Barks Rd W, Marion, OH 43302).

Snyder Funeral Homes of Mount Gilead are honored to serve Dave’s family and your condolences may be expressed to them by visiting www.SnyderFuneralHomes.com.

  • What are uncles? They are Dads in the background. Even when we don’t realize it. They laugh at us when we do silly things and sometimes gets us to do silly things. They can be big brothers also. But most of all they are our mentors. I will miss ya uncle David even when you were threatening me with your stubby finger. Thanks for being the dad in the background. F!y with the angels.
