David S. “Dave” Barler

David S. “Dave” Barler, age 64, of Mount Gilead, passed away Wednesday evening, September 28, 2016, at Woodside Village Care Center in Mount Gilead.

On October 25, 1951, Dave was born in Mount Gilead, OH, the son of the late Robert E. and Mildred I. (Woodruff) Barler.

As a young man, Dave served in the U.S. Marine Corps.  He worked most of his life in maintenance at the Mount Gilead Truck Plaza, from where he retired.  He was also a fireman for the Edison Volunteer Fire Department.  He was a member of First Baptist Church in Mount Gilead, and enjoyed fishing and swimming in his spare time.

He will be missed by his two sons, David Scott (Ashley)Barler of Edison, Corey James Haag of Galion; a step-son, Ryan Thoman of Ashley; and 5 grandchildren.

His family will greet friends from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 3, 2016, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead.  Services to honor and celebrate his life will be held there at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Billy White officiating.  Burial with military honors provided by the active duty U.S. Marines, VFW Post 8054 and AmVets Post 87 will follow in Rivercliff Cemetery.
