David R, Rank, age 76 of Marengo, died Sunday evening at his residence surrounded by his family.
He was born on January 22, 1938 in Sycamore to the late Cyrus and Flossie (May) Rank. He was a US Army Veteran and a retired school bus driver for Highland School District with 33 years of service and retired in the Spring of 2014 and he was also a farmer. He was a member of the Indian Mill Antique Tractor Club, former member of the Young Farmers Association. Past President of the Highland athletic Boosters Association and honorary member of the Highland FFA.
David enjoyed being with his family, fishing, watching basketball, watching the Cleveland Indians and driving the school bus for the basketball team and the FFA groups.
He is survived by son: Matt of Marengo; daughter: Valerie (Ricky) Lewis of Sunbury; grandchildren: Tracy, Lindsey, Kelsey, Stephanie, Jennifer; great granddaughter Lucille; daughter-in-law: Vicky Rank of Marengo; brother Al Rank of Calf.; sister: Alice (Ray) Earl of Carey.
Preceded in death by his wife: Phyllis E. (King) Rank on February 16, 2009 and they were married February 19, 1960; son: Jeffrey D. Rank on September 29, 2007
Friends may call Saturday from 10- 1 at the Marengo United Methodist Church, 8 N. Main Street, Marengo with the service to follow at 1 p.m. with burial at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Marengo.

  • So sorry to hear about his passing. Every time I would see a Highland bus, I would always check to see if Dave was driving. If it was him, I would always make sure to wave. Always loved to see his smiling face!!

  • Sorry for the loss of Dave. Always a good man….remember all the times that he drove bus from school activities to the shuttle bus between the middle school and high school. Always a good guy to talk with and so many stories. He will be greatly missed.

  • R.I.P Captain Rank. It was an honor to serve under you at the Big Walnut Joint Fire District a.k.a. Marengo Volunteer Fire Department.

    He loved his community and was eager to serve. I know he loved to run on the fire department and driving the school bus routes.

    A very kind hearted man, you could not ask for more, a person that will surely be missed by his community.

    Dave was the BEST bus driver that we could ever have when we were in school. He drove us all to our sporting events and even those of us in Marching Band.
    RIP Dave you will always be missed.

  • I remember all the times he drove our bus in all kinds of bad weather to our wrestling matches even the all day long tournaments and never said a bad thing. He would be our sub driver some times when our regular driver was unable to drive. He will be missed.

  • I always smile when I remember all of the great times the basketball team and the FFA had with Dave. He was more than a bus driver to us, he was a friend. Dave was a fantastic influence upon so many young people in our community. I always knew how much Dave cared about me (and all of his kids) on a personal level.
