David Lee Welch, 76, of Delaware, passed away early Monday, May 2, 2011 at
his residence, surrounded by his family. He was born on June 12, 1934 in
Muskegon, Michigan to John and Fern (Price) Welch, who preceded him in
death. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Joan (Mullins) Welch and his
daughter, Shelly (David) Fitzhugh, of Delaware. He is also survived by his sisters
JoAnn (Jim) Webster of Newark, Wanda (Bud) Gerzina of Piqua and Janette
(Elmer) Hughes of Mansfield. David was employed by the State of Ohio,
Department of Transportation, and retired from the agency as a chief radio
technician. He was a member of the renowned 101st Airborne Division, the “Screaming
Eagles”, with whom he served his country from 1957-1959. A member of the
Masonic brotherhood, David was proud to have attained 32nd degree status.
David enjoyed amateur radio communication, electronics repair, feeding his
beloved birds, and traveling to Michigan each spring for morel mushroom
hunting with his son-in-law and many friends. The family will receive friends
on Friday, May 6, from 6-8 p.m. with a Masonic service following the calling hours at the Rodman Neeper Funeral Home in
