David “Larry” Ecker

David “Larry” Ecker, age 75, of Marengo, passed away Monday evening, June 23, 2014, at the Marion General Hospital following an extended illness.

On April 12, 1939, Larry was born in Columbus, Ohio, the son of the late Frederick W. and Frances E. (Jones) Ecker. He graduated from Scioto Valley High School in the Class of 1957. Shortly after graduation, Larry enlisted and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps as a sharp shooter.

Larry loved being at home and working outdoors, taking care of the lawn with his antique Ford tractors. He also liked pond fishing, gardening, and square dancing. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and spending time on the computer playing games and emailing friends.

He will be remembered as a simple man with a quirky sense of humor, and for being a loving, generous father and wonderful brother.

Larry will be dearly missed by his daughter, Tammy Ecker of Marengo; four brothers: Ron (Shirley) Bailey of Fancy Gap, VA, Dean (Jenny) Ecker of Ashley, Stanley Ecker of NY, Fred (Tricia) Ecker of Orlando, FL; a sister, Kathy Deane of Marion; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

The Ecker family will greet friends from 1 – 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, 2014 at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Military honors will be provided by the active duty U.S. Marine Corps, as well as the VFW Post 8054 and AmVets Post 87 at 3:00 p.m.
