David E. Smith

David E. Smith, 79, of Delaware passed away Monday evening July 11, 2016 at the Arbors of Delaware.

He was born April 23, 1937 in Marion County to the late David H. and Lucia Marie (Ward) Smith.

David worked many years in the maintenance department at St. Mary Catholic Church in Delaware and was a member of the Golden Eagles. He also was a charter member of the Sons of AmVets Post #102 and a life member of the Delaware Senior Citizens. He also enjoyed carpentry work.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, Criss (Ruthie) Smith of Marion; step daughter, Jackie (Bill) Blair of Radnor; step son, Kenneth L. (Sarah) Bensley of Radnor; seven grandchildren, James, Scott, Angie, Wendy, Brad, Billiejo and Tammy; nine great grandchildren, Christy, Holt, Kimberly, Ryliegh, Autumn, Owen, Hunter, Taylor and AJ; one great-great grandson Connor; nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife Betty, son Dean Smith, two brothers Carl and Earl Smith and two sisters June Parker and May Holler.

The family will receive friends on Thursday July 14, 2016 from 4 – 8 pm at the Snyder Rodman Funeral Center, 101 Valleyside Drive (formerly 1510 W. William Street), Delaware. Graveside services will be held on Friday July 15, 2016 at 10:30 am at Oak Grove Cemetery.

  • I’m sorry to hear about your loss. I am a former student of St. Mary’s. I remember one cold day after school while we waited to be picked up from Mr. Smith invited us into the boiler room and showed us around. I always thought it was neat. God bless.
